Plant Equipment: November Update

Atlas Copco Compressors has launched a new range of DD+, PD+, DDp+ and PDp+ standard and high pressure filters which enable users to efficiently reduce all types of contamination in their compressed air system and ensure equipment and processes are protected. (Read more)

At the recent Drinktec 2013 in Munich, KSB highlighted its new SuPremE pump motor. Developed by KSB, With its synchronous reluctance principle the motor provides users with a technology that is designed to met all future requirements for energy-efficient drives of pumps. It meets the planned IE4 efficiency requirements to IEC/CD 60034-30 Ed. 2 already today.

Sulzer has taken a strategic decision to focus the company’s activities in three key markets—oil and gas, power, and water. These markets, which accounted for about two thirds of the company’s sales in 2012. After a potential divestiture of Sulzer Metco, these three markets would account for almost 80% of sales—with oil and gas at 48%, power at 16%, and water at 15%.

UK innovation agency the Technology Strategy Board has awarded Amarinth a £250k grant to further develop a design/production process for an energy-efficient molten sulphur pump for the petchem industry. Amarinth has been developing a process to make bespoke best efficiency point (BEP) optimised impellers that can be produced affordably on short lead times. Centrifugal pumps used in industry are often a ‘best fit’ selection from a standard range of pumps and most pumps don't run at their BEP, with energy inefficiencies of up to 25% often found, said Amarinth.

Severn Glocon has acquired Calidus Engineering, a Redruth, UK-based developer of subsea and downhole technologies for harsh environments particularly in the subsea oil and gas applications. (Read more)

ABB is to acquire Coalville, UK–based Dynamotive Ltd to expand its service offering, including upgrade and retrofit, in low- and medium-voltage drives and motors. Dynamotive designs, commissions and upgrades systems of drives, controls and motors for industrial and marine applications and automotive test rigs. Dynamotive has about 40 employees and is privately owned. Its owners will continue to work for ABB.  (Press statement)

has introduced a new gearbox for agitator duties, which is designed to provide lower maintenance costs and higher productivity. The bearing and gear life of the Model 20 HT/GT gearbox are enhanced by an oversized output shaft that reduces gear deflection and noise, while a true dry well seal prevents lubricant leaking down the shaft. The gearbox also has a recessed low-speed coupling half that simplifies installation by removing the need to install the extension shaft up through the gearbox.

Zettlex Ltd has expanded its production operations in Newton, Cambridgeshire and is recruiting additional production and engineering staff. Mark Howard, Zettlex general manager linked the move to increased sales of the company's IncOder high precision angle encoders, particularly from South Korea, Turkey, Germany, North America and Belgium. The measurement performance of the IncOder is unaffected by humidity, moisture, condensation or dust and so is suitable for use in harsh environments where electrical contacts, optical encoders or capacitive devices may be unreliable.

Schaeffler has launched an online, interactive information guide to help companies correctly mount and dismount rolling bearings. The Schaeffler Mounting Toolbox is a web-based information guide on how to professionally install rolling bearings and the tools required to do this. As well as learning about which tools and fitting aids are required, users can also view short educational videos that demonstrate how these tools should be used in practice.

IMTEX's latest range of valve communication systems can communicate actual valve position on a continuous basis. This enables process engineers to check for valve stiction, which if left undetected, could lead to increased operating costs and/or compromised process quality. Target markets include oil, gas & petrochemicals, chemicals, food & beverage, energy/power, marine/offshore, metal processing and pharma.

Stainless steel and plastic vertical float switches from Cynergy3 Components are now available with industry standard M12 round 4-pin connectors and cables. The offer quick-connection, plug-in switches for controlling the filling and emptying of process/liquid storage tanks. The first switches with the new M12 connectors is the RSF66P series of PPS (polyphenylene sulphide) vertical float switches.

Cooper Crouse-Hinds has gained new ATEX and IECEx approvals for its Ex-e (increased safety) GHG 410 range of safety and isolating transformers. These transformers are suitable for use in potentially explosive atmospheres. Safety and isolating transformers are used for the power supply of control circuits. The use of these transformers is stipulated in the EN 61558-2-1 standard. This requires the use of safety and isolation transformers if more than five operating coils are used in one circuit.
