Petrofac is to lead a partnership with Italian lump-sum contractor Bonatti to execute a 32-month EPC contract for Sonatrach to extend the life of the Alrar gas field in south east Algeria. The contract value is more than $650m.

Farabi Petrochemicals Co. has selected Foster Wheeler to undertake a concept study and technology selection for the Jazan Petrochemicals Project in Saudi Arabia. This will include developing the overall concept for a world-scale linear alkyl benzene plant and specialty chemicals units using diesel feedstock by Q1/14. FW will also recommend technologies for producing low aromatics solvent and treating heavy fuel oil, and develop cost estimates and the invitation to tender for the FEED.

Honeywell is to provide an integrated control and safety system (ICSS) for the world’s first floating LNG liquefaction, regasification and storage unit (FLRSU) for the Exmar-Pacific Rubiales Energy project offshore Colombia.Honeywell is working with Black & Veatch on topside pre-treatment and liquefaction processes and with Wison for the barge, cargo tanks and utilities.

A Qatar-based company is seeking the supply of 55 additional slots at gas lift manifold for new wells. Potential suppliers are required to register interest by 27 Oct with the UKTI team in Doha.  More details are available via the UKTI link.

Amarinth has won a new order to supply a second set of pumps to the Zubair Initial production facility in Basra, southern Iraq. US-based Weatherford International, which holds the oil field facilities contract for Iraq's Zubair oil field, placed the latest order for eight pumps to the same specification, on the same 24 week delivery.  (Read more)

Dangote Industries Ltd
has signed a loan agreement with a consortium of local and international banks totalling $3.3bn to construct the biggest petroleum oil refinery and petrochemical plants in Nigeria.  (Read more)  

Foster Wheeler has been awarded a contract by LLC KINEF, part of Surgutneftegaz, for the engineering and material supply of nine fired heaters for the new high octane gasoline compounds production complex to be built at the KINEF - Kirishinefteorgsyntez refinery in Russia. Work is due to be completed in Q1/15. The refinery has a crude oil processing capacity of 230k bpda.

Rotork is supplying three coal seam gas-to-LNG projects in Queensland, Australia with over 5000 valve actuators, embracing electric, electro-hydraulic, pneumatic and gas-over-oil technologies. The end clients – Queensland Curtis LNG, Santos GLNG and Australia Pacific LNG – are developing coal seam gas in Queensland’s Surat and Bowen Basins.  (Read more)

Rosneft and ExxonMobil have selected CB&I UK and Foster Wheeler Energy as contractors for initial phase FEED for a proposed Russian Far East LNG project. A final project design is due by the end of 2014, including FEED documentation for the LNG plant, associated facilities and gas pipeline, as well as engineering studies and environmental impact assessment.  (Read more)

CB&I has been awarded a contract valued in excess of $50m by Sunoco Partners Marketing and Terminals LP. CB&I will provide engineering, procurement, construction and pre-commissioning for two large low-temperature liquefied propane and butane tanks for Sunoco Logistics'  Mariner South project in Nederland, Texas.

KLPE LLP has chosen a consortium between Petrofac, Linde and GS Engineering & Construction Corp. of Korea to provide services for development of its Integrated Petrochemicals Complex and Infrastructure (IPCI) project, situated in the Tengiz and Karabatan regions of Kazakhstan. (Read more)

Yokogawa is to execute the FEED for a project to consolidate the control rooms and systems at JX Nippon Oil & Energy Corp.'s Mizushima-A oil refinery. JXE is working to ensure the safe and stable operations its refineries.  (Read more)

MAC Solutions
' ProcessVue alarm management software has been chosen by a major US-based gas utility company to manage and report on process alarms across its operation. The customer did consider other alarm management software applications, but ProcessVue was the most cost effective in terms of implementation and annual support.

Pemex has awarded ICA Fluor – an industrial engineering-construction JV between Fluor Corp. and Empresas ICA, SAB de CV – a new contract for the construction of a gas compression system to service the Dos Bocas Marine Terminal in Paraiso, Tabasco, on the Gulf of Mexico. Fluor will book a $54m share of the contract.

In Russia, Antipinsky Refinery CJSC will use Honeywell’s Experion Process Knowledge System (PKS) to control plant processes and general refinery facilities as part of the third stage of construction of its refinery in Tyumen. Aker Solutions
has recently won a contract from Statoil to do an extended concept study for the floater for the Johan Castberg oilfield development in the Barents Sea. The NOK250m contract includes options for further work. Aker previously conducted concept studies for the Johan Castberg field, which is estimated to hold 400-600m barrels of oil.

Fluor Corp.
has netted an engineering and design services contract with South Louisiana Methanol LP for a potential 5,000t/day methanol project in St. James Parish, Louisiana, near the Mississippi River. Fluor is working to finalise the process design and complete preliminary design. The gas-to-methanol project is being developed by Todd Corp. and ZEEP Management US.

Wood Group GTS has secured a 'multi-million dollar', three-year contract extension from Total E&P Nederland BV to provide maintenance management support for the client's entire fleet of turbines, driven equipment, generators and associated equipment on seven offshore gas platforms in the Dutch sector of the North Sea.

Wood Group GTS
has been awarded a one-year, $13m contract by a power company in Myanmar to overhaul and upgrade three GE Frame 6B gas turbines in operation in the country's Yangon region. The work is to improve the total output of the gas turbines and provide increased reliability to Myanmar's power production.

Foster Wheeler is to deliver a feasibility study for the upgrade of Statoil’s Mongstad refinery in Norway by the end of 2013. The upgrade will address crude feedstock flexibility requirements and increase diesel production, including the production of ultra-low-sulfur diesel. It is expected to include the installation of a new vacuum distillation unit, together with new diesel hydrotreaters.

Wood Group GTS has expanded its gas turbine service line and now offers maintenance, repair and overhaul for Solar Mars and Siemens SGT 200 (Tornado) dry low emissions and SGT 100 (Typhoon) gas turbines, which are used primarily by the oil & gas industry. The company has expanded its maintenance facilities in Houston and Aberdeen, UK, to accommodate the new turbines.

Sulzer Pumps is to supply 42 pumps for installation on two FPSO vessels that will operate in the Pre Salt Iracema cluster areas located in the Santos Basin, off the coast of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Oil and gas service provider AGR is to deliver a two-year frame agreement for the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate. Its Norway-based reservoir management team will deliver services including reservoir modelling, petrophysics, reservoir simulation and increased oil recovery. Last year, AGR won a contract to develop Norway state-owned  Gassnova’s carbon capture strategy.

Jacobs Engineering
has won a three-year contract from Nexen Energy ULC for engineering and procurement services for the Long Lake oil sands facility – an integrated steam assisted gravity drainage and upgrading operation that uses a proprietary OrCrude technology as well as hydrocracking and gasification to produce premium synthetic crude. It is located 40km southeast of Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada.

AUMA has supplied actuators to the Bučany and Šahy stations for Transpetrol, operator of the Slovakian section of the 2,500-mile Družba oil pipeline, which transports Russian and Kazakh oil across Europe. AUMA supplied 90 electric actuators to replace existing valve control units. The explosion proof SAEx actuators are designed to withstand harsh conditions and for ease of installation/operation and advanced diagnostics.

Porvair has been awarded a further extension to its contract with Reliance Industries that was announced on 13 Feb. In a second extension to the contract for gasification filtration, Reliance Industries has ordered further filtration modules, increasing the scope of the project by a further quarter. Work is already underway on the contract and the first payments from Reliance Industries have been received.

Wood Group Kenny has won a new contract containing two engineering services scopes with BP Angola. The deal is under a BP Global agreement awarded to WGK in 2007. The contract involves subsea ops support: one for work associated with the Block 18 Greater Plutonio Operations group; the other for work associated with Block 31 PSVM operations group. The $18m contract secures the provision of Wood Group Kenny’s subsea engineering and project management services for an initial 12 month period in one of BP’s ultra deepwater provinces.

Rominserv has won a $1.072bn contract to modernise and increase the processing capacity of Pavlodar refinery in Kazakhstan, Rompetrol announced 1 Aug. The programme targets the increase of the processing capacity to 7 million tons/year, the increase of the refining yield as well as the improvement of the product quality and the reduction of the environmental impact. Foster Wheeler has been awarded a project management contract by Cardon IV SA – a JV between Eni Venezuela BV and Repsol YPF Venezuela Gas SA – for new gas production facilities for the Perla Field in the Gulf of Venezuela. Foster Wheeler will supervise the engineering, procurement and construction contractors and the procurement of long-lead equipment, including from centres in Houston, Madrid, London, and Rijeka, Croatia.

Wood Group has announced the set-up of KTRWG Turbine Services LLP, a 50:50 JV with Kazak company KazTurboRemont (KTR). The venture is to focus on major maintenance services for turbomachinery rotating equipment including compressors and industrial gas turbines used in applications in the Caspian region.

Emerson
is to automate Sasol's planned integrated GTL and world-scale ethane cracker complex in  Lake Charles, Louisiana. The scope includes dozens of integrated process units and more than 100,000 measurement and control points. Sasol anticipates investing $16-$21 billion in the two facilities which will leverage shale resource in the region. Main automation contractor Emerson will provide most of the process automation technologies, engineering, and ongoing support services for the operations.

INEOS has awarded KBR a FEED contract for one of the largest grassroots high-density polyethylene (HDPE) plants to be built in the Americas. The bimodal HDPE 470ktpa will use Innovene S process technology and leverage new shale-derived ethylene production capacity in North America. It is expected to be located in the US Gulf coast area and to start up in Q4 2015. KBR’s scope includes the FEED for the inside and outside battery limit facilities and order of long-lead equipment for the project.

Foster Wheeler is to provide detailed engineering, procurement and construction management services for the 'LA-3 Crack More Ethane' project at Dow Chemical Co.'s Plaquemine, Louisiana petchem site. Dow aims to improve the plant ethane flexibility to use low-cost feedstock. The contract scope will include brownfield additions and retrofit modifications.

Sunoco Partners Marketing & Terminals LP
has awarded CB&I a $270m-plus contract for the construction of a turnkey propane terminal and de-ethanizer facility in Marcus Hook, Penn. CB&I is currently constructing the ethane storage tank terminal for Sunoco at this site.

Sasol has gained new approvals for the use of ALCAT TEAL purified tri-ethyl aluminium polymerisation co-catalyst in applications such as the Novolen polypropylene gas-phase technology. It has been produced at a 6,000 tonnes/year plant in Brunsbüttel, Germany, since June 2012.

Fluor Corp. has secured a FEED contract for Sasol’s ethane cracker and derivative chemicals facility at its Lake Charles Chemical Complex in Louisiana. Fluor will book around $120m for the FEED contract, which is expected to be completed in late 2013. The new ethane cracker will allow Sasol to expand its derivatives business in the US. Start-up is forecast in 2017 with the expected production of 1,500ktpa of ethylene with downstream derivative plants.

Green Energy Group AS
has placed a new order for Metso's Neles rotary control valves and triple eccentric disc valves. The valves were tested in a pilot plant in Kenya, where they will control the steamy process flow coming from the boreholes drilled into the ground. Loosened soil from the ground can include silica and sand, which creates challenges for valves, including silica scaling.

Atlas Copco won a $23m order in Turkey to deliver equipment for two renewable energy geothermal power plants. Çelikler Jeotermal Elektrik Üretim AS chose its gas and process division to deliver four geothermal power trains with a total gross capacity of 80MW. Two of the power trains, which include expander generators, are for a power plant project near Pamukören. The additional two units, also including expander generators, will be installed at a new site near Sultanhisar.

Togliattiazot Corp. (ToAZ) has selected KBR to perform revamp studies for seven ammonia plants located in Togliatti, Russia. The ToAZ revamp project will be the world’s largest upgrade of an ammonia complex with the seven plants located at the same site. During the initial phase, KBR will evaluate plant operations to identify bottlenecks, define technical and commercial requirements, and examine process schemes prior to licensing KBR technology.

Rotork is to supply intelligent electric valve actuators and two-wire digital control systems for a project to convert the Caltex Kurnell refinery site in Sydney, Australia into an import terminal for fuels. The 300 actuators involved include IQ3 units –  the newest version of Rotork’s intelligent electric actuator range. Many of the actuators will be supplied on new valves whilst a number are being retrofitted onto existing hand-operated valve installations.

Sapphire Energy and Linde are to expand their partnership to commercialise a new industrial scale conversion technology needed to upgrade algae biomass into crude oil. The companies aim to refine the hydrothermal treatment process developed and operated by Sapphire Energy at pilot scale, and jointly license and market the technology to industries, including algae, municipal solid waste and farm waste.

Qatar Shell
has awarded Metso a service contract supporting an earlier delivery of valves and intelligent positioners to the Pearl GTL project in Ras Laffan Industrial City. As part of the capital project, Metso delivered 2,500 valves and 1,200 ND9000 positioners. As the plant is designed to run 24/7, Shell is streamlining the spare part procurement process. The five-year spare parts agreement with Metso covers over 1000 items.

Total is to employ KBR’s ROSE solvent deasphalting technology at its Antwerp refinery in Belgium.The ROSE unit is expected to significantly enhance the profitability of the refinery and is expected to come on stream in early 2016. The technology will split 48,000 barrels-per-stream-day of residue from a mix of crude oils into deasphalted oil (DAO) and asphaltene. The DAO will be upgraded in a mild hydrocracking unit and the asphaltene will be blended into fuel oil.

Valero
has started up a new hydrocracker unit at the St. Charles Refinery. The 60k-bpd unit is similar to one started at Valero's Port Arthur refinery in December 2012. The hydrocrackers were designed to capitalise on high crude oil and low natural gas prices, and produce primarily diesel. Each of the units cost about $1.6bn to construct. Valero aims to expand throughput capacity to 75k bpd at each of the new hydrocrackers by 2015. it is also pursuing a 20k-bpd expansion of the existing hydrocracker at its Meraux refinery by the end of 2014.

WorleyParsons
has been awarded a contract by Sasol North America Inc. for an integrated GTL and ethane cracker complex. WorleyParsons is to provide integrated program management team (IPMT) services for the front-end engineering and design phase, with the intent to subsequently provide IPMT services to the engineering, procurement and construction phase of the project.

INEOS Technologies
has licensed its Innovene S Process for the manufacture of medium density and high density polyethylene to CNOOC Oil and Petrochemical Co. Ltd for its cracker complex located in Huizhou City, China. The 400ktpa HDPE plant will produce a range of polyethylenes – including commodity grades made from Ziegler and Chrome catalysts as well as specialty grades such as bimodal PE 100 pipe products.

Russia's Gazprom is stepping up plans to build a 4,000km gas pipeline to deliver gas from Siberia to a new LNG terminal at Vladivostok by the end of 2016, the FT has reported. However, the $46-billion project, which also envisages a spur pipeline to China, risks becoming 'a white elephant', concludes the report – citing growing LNG market competition from US shale as well as from Rosneft and other Russian independents.
